Synonymous with limited-edition collaborations with artists in different realms, G-SHOCK has partnered with local contemporary artist, Jahan Loh to create a special timepiece to usher in the lunar year of the Rat.
No stranger to G-SHOCK collaborations that included the previous runaway successes of exclusive collections such as the Celestial Guardian in 2018 and most recently, the ION Orchard 10th Anniversary timepieces that were limited to only 50 pieces, Jahan Loh has made head waves with the brand not just locally but also around Asia.
His artistic flair in contemporary Chinese Arts and Culture has been deeply rooted in much of his works and intrinsically, the special watch and packaging bears the essence of it. This is a watch to herald the Rat year with good fortune and longevity cites Jahan Loh.
“Celebrating the year of the metal rat in auspicious red, the pattern on the strap is derived from the Chinese text of 寿 Shou (longevity) and the Chinese text for 福 Fu (auspicious): Shou (the Chinese character of longevity) and Fu (blessings, auspicious and good fortune) are most popular auspicious symbols in the Lunar New Year season. The calligraphy of good fortune and pattern of longevity is composed of the character of 2 rats and the longevity pattern,” says Loh.
This collectible is based on the canvas of GA-2100 also fondly touted as the GAME CHANGER watch which today remains a new favourite mainstay in the G-SHOCK family of tough watches. The high-strength resin material, which is reinforced with carbon fibres, makes it possible to create a case that is a mere 11.8 mm thin, which is the thinnest but toughest in the G-SHOCK watch collection.
The Lunar Rat year collectible piece GA2100-4CNYJAHA is now available in store and online. It will be retailing at S$239.
