Tiffany Tan, born and bred in Singapore started out as a henna artist. Now, she runs her own brand, Tiffany Lovage where she has worked with reputable brands like SK-II, Netflix and Dr. Martens.
What female empowerment mean to you?
Female empowerment is about being confident as a woman and as a human being.
What does the International Women’s Day slogan, #ChooseToChallenge mean for you in your life?
It means for me to seek independence and take control of my capabilities, challenging myself to take it to the next level.
What barriers have you faced, as a woman, in becoming successful in your field? How did you overcome them?
Struggling to find a balance to cater to both ‘masculine’ and ‘feminine’ type illustrations. I ditched the labels and just drew what I liked.
Based on your own experience, what advice would you give to women considering pursuing a career in your field?
To never underestimate yourself! We are our worst critics, I would know. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes, to ask for help and showcase your work.
How important is it for women to lift each other up and what does that mean to you?
I think community and accountability plays a huge role in mental health. Without the support and understanding from my peers, I would not be where I am today.
On International Women’s Day, what is the most important message you want to send out to young women?
To find something they love doing and do it often. Use it to fuel their confidence and fire.
